It’s been quite a while since going on a dive adventure, but here I am. I was on the fence about posting about this trip at all. I don’t blog too often these days, and certain life changes not only have me down, but give this trip a particular emotional struggle of its own.
A strong desire to leave the country this holiday season led me, Kristen, and Curtis to Cabo San Lucas, a town in Los Cobos, located on the southern tip of Baja California Sur, Mexico. It’s my first time both in this area of Mexico and diving in the Pacific. Both of these are firsts to be thankful for, which is appropriate as we flew out on Thanksgiving day.
Minus an hour+ delay in Chicago, both flights went smoothly. Customs was only a minor inconvenience. Once again, our driver donned a sign with a misspelled name, causing us all to have a good laugh.
It was just the three of us in the van for the 30-ish minute drive to our hotel. No awkward conversations with strangers or multiple stops to drop off other passengers. After a long day of travel, we finally arrived at The Bungalows Hotel
It’s a rustic little place, but I quite like it. We were greated by Eduardo. He explained that it is a family run hotel, and he even lives on site should we need anything after hours. Unfortunately we would miss the included breakfast most days because of our dive schedule, but it will give me something to look forward to on the last couple days when the diving is done and the trip is coming to an end. There is a DVD library for our use, but as our only TV is in cklahr’s room, I doubt I’ll be partaking. Good thing I have an iPad and the wireless is excellent.
The pool was a bit green due to the storm that had rolled in a few days prior to our arrival, but they were working to fix it. Seems the storm was a real whopper. The residual effects even interfered with our first day of diving.
On Thursday night we ventured to Las Mariscadas for dinner as recommended by Eduardo. They served traditional Mexican fare. It was the best fish ceviche I’ve had outside of Belize, and the shrimp fajitas were magnífico! I had a strawberry daquiri, and Kristen had a margarita. Well…two. It was my fault. I talked her into it. But apparently it was too much and she got a little too sloppy.
After a quick trip to a convenience store for some breakfast items (ended up with only one yogurt, a candy bar, and a bottle of Coke) we turned in for the night. A 7:00am alarm time for the next morning wasn’t too early, but I was exhausted from lack of sleep the night before and the long day of travel. I was fast asleep around 8:30 pm and was dead to the world until my alarm went off.
