Another day, another pool of solitude. Technically we haven’t been alone any of the days, but if I can capture a picture of an empty pool, I feel like it counts.
Today was a HOT one. I haven’t really been checking the weather because all the days have been so beautiful, but today was something else.
MSD dive friends Doug and Jeff spent the week on a live aboard somewhere off the coast, and they were spending one night in Cabo before flying home, so we met them for lunch at Karlito’s Cantina in the marina. We gave the fish ceviche a try, but it was not great. The menu said it was fish marinated in lime juice with pico, so it sounded promising, but it was very much half raw fish in a tomato based sauce. Curtis nailed it when he said it tasted like herring.
The shrimp tacos were excellent though. At least the flavor of the shrimps were. I’m not the biggest fan of corn tortillas, and tacos here don’t come with much accoutrements. Unfortunately Kristen couldn’t say the same about her fish tacos. Curtis didn’t care for the steak tacos either. Sucks to be them. The two piña coladas I downed helped to ward off the heat.
We parted ways with Doug and Jeff after lunch with a promise to meet up for dinner. The walk back to Terrasol was stifling. Kristen ditched us at mach speed because she had to pee. My calves are just starting to get used to the uphill both ways and uneven ground. Dare I say if it weren’t scorching hot, I might have enjoyed the walk home?
After a reprieve from the heat in the condo and afternoon naps, we met up with Doug and Jeff for dinner. This time we went to Outpost, which was new to us all. I ordered the shrimp, and cklahr both ordered the catch of the day, which was sea bass. Two thumbs up all around. I also had two glasses of wine, while everyone else had fancy flavored margaritas. Oh, and I ate authentic esquites for the first time, which topped anything I’ve had back home. Dessert consisted of flan, of which I did not partake (all flanned out) and churros. I call the evening a success.
Oh! After our meal concluded, a gentleman came to our table and performed a few magic tricks with cards and balls. It was all slight of the hand, and he did a fantastic job. Just when I thought I had him figured out, he changed the trick and pulled a fast one on me once again! Definitely one of the more memorable parts of the trip, and way better than mariachi bands or everyone at the marina peddling their wares.
Tomorrow is our last full day, and while I’m sad, I’m also ready to go home. I think a week is the perfect length for a relaxation trip.
